Hound Rescue is a very important matter for the
Rocky Mountain Hound Association; and though
we are not a Hound Rescue our members and
board support the rescue efforts of the approved
Hound Breed Rescues (linked on the left).
The topic of dog rescue is vast; but please do
allow us to share some essential information.
Responsible Breeders are not the cause for the growing number of rescue animals.
- Responsible Breeders do not breed dogs for monetary gain.
- Responsible Breeders do very selective, planned, & limited breedings.
- Responsible Breeders generally microchip their puppies & screen puppy applicants.
- Responsible Breeders (if needed) take back dogs they bred (they are not a rescue burden).
- Responsible Breeders support their breed rescues which resuce dogs from other sources.
Other Breeders, like Backyard Breeders or Large Scale Puppy Mills, that's another story.
- Other Breeders breed for money (selling puppies on-line, via pet stores, & take all credit cards.)
- Other Breeders sell & ship very young puppies (in some cases just 4 weeks old).
- Other Breeders do not accept their dogs back, once they sell & ship them.
- Other Breeders do not screen well for homes, so often dogs don't go to a loving, forever home.
- Other Breeders do not support their breed rescues in any fashion (they avoid them).
Please help rescue dogs in Colorado & everywhere, by supporting only responsible breeders.
And of course, please consider adopting a rescue dog if you can!
